Review-Taste The Heat by Rachel Harris

Taste the Heat by Rachel Harris

From Goodreads:

One sexy fire captain. One Cajun chef, One combustible kitchen…

When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to
New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she doesn’t want to taste. Colby is counting down the days till she can leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. He knows he should focus on finding the perfect mother for his daughter, but when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason doesn’t want to say no.

As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

My Review:
Spicy Food, a Sensual Setting, and one Sexy Firefighter!

Three of my favorite things: firemen, good food, and hot romance. So what’s not to love about this book? Jason Landry is my hero. I mean, he’s a fireman, he can cook, and he’s the most amazing father. Not to mention, listening to him talk about the wife he lost just breaks your heart. How can you not love him? He really deserves someone so amazing, so loving, and so ready to be a role model to his adorable daughter, Emma.

Enter Colby Robicheaux. She’s been in love with Jason since she knew what the word meant. He lit up every page in her diary. Of course, since he was best friends with her older brother, she was just like a little sister to him. But little sis is all grown up and beautiful. Her heart might not be available, but her fantasies about Jason are sill alive and well.

They agree to give in to the attraction, no strings attached of course. Why not? No commitment since Colby only returned home to help get the family restaurant back in gear after their father died. Only what starts out as some spicy heat quickly turns in to so much more. They bond over the losses they’ve experienced, food, and Jason’s amazing daughter (Emma is fantastic!).

The story is just so real. My heart broke when Jason told Colby about his wife. It is such a horrific story and you really understand where he’s coming from. And Colby hasn’t had much luck in love herself. A bad ending to a first love and one secret she’s kept for years have hardened her heart.

I really loved watching the two evolve throughout the book. The relationship goes through some ups and downs and you will feel every one of them. But you will genuinely root for the two to open their eyes to the amazing thing right in front of them.

Lovable characters, a sensual setting, and some spicy cooking make this book a must read!

My Three Favorite Scenes:

1.  The moment Jason realizes who Colby is (after some hot flirting mind you).
2.  The drugstore scene. You just have to read it. HINT: Think feminine protection LOL.
3.  The AMAZING date Jason plans....and the chocolate body paint for dessert *sigh*

I thought I'd share my thoughts on who I think would make an AMAZING Jason:

If you've already read the book, who do you see as Jason? If you haven't read it yet:  see above, pick up book now, and enjoy :)

Oh, and as an added bonus......the sexy-tattoo hottie Cane is getting his own book!  Ahhhh! Who is Cane you ask? Well, read the book to find out. But after some serious debate, here is my Cane:

Oh, to see Channing with some glorious tattoos! A girl can dream. Until then, I'm counting down the days till book 2!

As a teen, Rachel Harris threw raging parties that shook her parents’ walls and created embarrassing fodder for future YA novels. As an adult, she reads and writes obsessively, rehashes said embarrassing fodder, and dreams up characters who become her own grown up version of imaginary friends.

She grew up in New Orleans, watching soap operas with her grandmother and staying up late sneak reading her mam's favorite romance novels. Now a Cajun cowgirl living in Houston, she still stays up too late reading her favorite romances, only now, she can do so openly. She firmly believes life's problems can be solved with a hot, powdered-sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations.

She homeschools her two beautiful girls and loves watching reality television with her amazing husband. She writes young adult, new adult, and adult Fun, Flirty Escapes, and LOVES talking with readers!
