From Misty Evans's website:
Fifteen years ago, Anya
Radzoya fled Russia with her grandmother after the suspicious deaths of her parents, but
she can’t escape the royal genes that make her one of Russia ’s last living princesses. When President Ivanov
blackmails her into returning to Moscow to be his future wife in exchange for her
grandmother’s life, Anya discovers he’s planning to unleash a nuclear war. With
no one else to turn to, she joins forces with CIA operative Ryan Smith.
Undercover at the nuclear
summit, Ryan is happy to recruit Anya to find proof Ivanov is resurrecting the
Cold War, but he suspects his new asset is a double agent. Anya is determined
to rescue her grandmother with or without his help, however, and Ryan finds
himself falling for the beautiful princess before he even trusts her. He
refuses to let her go it alone, even if it means risking his own critical
mission.
Trapped inside the Kremlin
with a cunning and ruthless opponent, the two must risk their lives and their
hearts to save Anya’s grandmother as well as millions of innocent people.
My Review
I have to start off saying that nothing makes me happier or
gets me more involved in a book than a really tough, strong, believable, female
main character. And Anya Romanov Radzoya is absolutely that person. She doesn’t
wait around for someone to save her. She fights back and fights hard for her
loved ones. I love Anya and I felt her fear every time she put herself in a
risky situation.
The entire story is based around Anya’s lineage and her
Russian past that even she doesn’t necessarily know all the details too. There
is mystery, action, and of course steamy romance. It’s a fun, summer read. I
read it at the beach, which was probably a good place since the obvious redness
in my cheeks from the intense heat of the book could be blamed on the scorching
sun.
President Ivanov is a great villain. He absolutely oozes
evil and corruption. From his actions to the plans in his head, there is
nothing redeemable about this character. Which makes it all the more fun to
root for him to fail miserably. The depth that one man will go to for absolute
power is terrifying.
Then there’s Ryan. He’s that guy. He’s gorgeous, funny, a
bit insecure at times, and a secret agent. How can you not fall in love with
him? His admiration for Anya is endearing and when he realizes how it’s turned
into love, you will long for them to be together. And when they get together?
Well, let’s just say fireworks aren’t anywhere near what goes off between them.
There are plenty of wonderful secondary characters in the
book from Truman to Del and my
favorite, Naomi. I want to know more about them. There's a history between a few that I'm dying to uncover.
The Blood Code is an exciting adventure with plenty of
secrets along the way. Just when you
have it all figured out another twist will keep you guessing about the final
end game, exactly what a spy story should do. The ending is great and hopefully
we will see bits of Anya and Ryan again. Misty Evans does a great job weaving real-life details and bringing the reader into the CIA world. Love this series. A definite must read.

ReplyDeleteGood! It's really a fabulous read. I haven't read a spy novel in a while and this totally changed my TBR pile!
