Some guys have the art of hooking up down to a science.

Except...for guys like Mike Hannigan.

The dude has got no game, his pick-up lines never work, and to make matters worse, his wing-man is his female best friend, Mindy.

Until one day, a mysterious raven-haired beauty catches Mike's eye and he's determined to have her. He doesn't care what lengths he has to go to. He'll do whatever it takes to perfect his game and figure out what to say without sounding like a sleaze.

But...

There's always something strange about mysterious girls.

They're usually mysterious for a reason and this girl in particular might be more than Mike bargained for.

Review-Rushing Into Love by Ashelyn Drake

Rushing Into Love by Ashelyn Drake
Published: September 10, 2013
Publisher: S.B. Addison Books

From Goodreads:

As a college junior, Mindy Stanton has no interest in dating a freshman.

That is until Ben Whitmore shows up and serenades his way into her heart at the dorm social she’s running. And after hearing him sing, even Mindy can’t deny that he has a deep, sexy voice that makes her melt.

Even though Mindy makes it clear that she doesn’t date younger guys, Ben pursues her anyway. After all, he doesn’t seem like the typical college freshman, who is only interested in hooking up, partying until he can’t remember his name, or joining a frat. He’s a gentleman, a romantic, and definitely knows all the right things to say to sweep a girl off her feet.

So Mindy drops her guard. She allows herself to fall for him. Before she knows it, Ben is all she can think about. To her, he’s perfect.

But it doesn’t take Mindy long to discover that even the most perfect guys…

Have secrets.

Meredith's Review:

A whirlwind romance full of passion, emotion, and broken hearts.

Y’all already know that I’m a huge fan of this series. I love revisiting the college years; the rollercoaster of emotions, the new found freedom, and all the firsts that come with making decisions all on your own. Each book in this series makes me smile back on my own college experience.

Mindy is the responsible R.A., a junior who is over the crazy antics of the incoming freshman-been there, done that. She’s watched a few girls on her floor meet the perfect guy, and she’s ready for her turn. Only she’s looking for someone more like her, you know someone who’s over partying all the time, someone with a future beyond the next kegger.

In walks Ben. He sweeps her off her feet by serenading her at a freshman social. He’s tall, dark, gorgeous, he can sing..........one major problem though. He's a freshman! Her head tells her to run for the hills, but her heart and her body want her to give in. Besides, Ben is so into her. It’s obvious by the romantic lengths he goes to in order to win her over. So she vetoes her head and gives in. All is perfect with the world…..or is it?

I really liked Mindy. As much as I adore every female character in this series I definitely relate the most to her. She’s sensible and responsible. I love her relationship with Mike (who is so stinkin’ cute….here’s hoping the next story is his). I fell for Ben right along with her and even wanted to shout at her to just go for it.

Ben is the dream guy. He’s THAT guy who can say the cheesiest pick up line and still make every girl swoon. Admit it; we’ve all known someone like him. It’s hard to not fall for him.

I enjoyed catching up with old favorites Andy, Noelle, and Julia. It’s nice to see they are all doing well. Missed Darren, but since he’s banned from being around Julia on campus it was expected.

I can’t rave enough about this series. Each book is a fun, quick read that will touch your heart and make you smile. If your college years are behind you like me, you will remember how wonderful and life changing those days were. And if you aren’t there yet or are just now experiencing it, you will laugh along with the mistakes, triumphs, and embarrassing moments these characters experience as they navigate the waters of their first steps into adulthood.

Now, for a little fun inspired by Ben. If you’ve never seen Top Gun, what planet are you on  it is a timeless movie that will always claim the rights to the best karaoke scene ever. And yes, there was a time when Tom Cruise was just freakin’ awesome!

Review-Behind Closed Doors by Ashelyn Drake

Behind Closed Doors (Campus Crush #2)
Release Date: 08/06/13

Summary from Goodreads:
Julia Monroe is through wishing she had an older guy like her best friend Noelle does. It’s time for her to act on her desires. So when she sees sexy, twenty-three-year-old Darren McEntire eating dinner alone at the pub, she decides to make her move. The attraction between them is undeniable, and even through Julia isn’t looking for a one-night stand, she winds up back at Darren’s place the same night she meets him. Only being with him makes her realize what she’s been missing dating other guys. All she wants is Darren.

But Julia allows Darren to think she’s his age and a grad student at the nearby college. She knows she has to confess the truth, but she’s afraid to shatter what they have. Not knowing what to do, she starts the semester only to discover that her new teaching assistant is none other than Darren. With the lies out in the open and campus policy against them, Julia and Darren know the relationship should be over before it even begins. But the chemistry between them is too strong to deny.

Can they find a way to be together or are they doomed to only see each other behind closed doors?

My Review:
Sassy, Sexy, and One Sweet Secret

I just love this series. It's short, sweet, and so much fun. Seeing Noelle and Andy again, happy and lovey-dovey, was a nice bonus. In Behind Closed Doors, we get to follow Julia this time, who was such a riot in the first book of the series. Where Noelle was the "good girl," Julia was more of the wild one.

After spending the summer as the third wheel to Noelle and Andy, Julia is ready for a cutesy relationship of her own. Or at a minimum a hot distraction from Noelle and Andy. She gets bold and wastes no time aggressively flirting with a hot guy eating alone at the pub she’s at with her friends. After some fun innuendos and a few drinks, Julia knows she better leave before she gets herself in trouble. Only she ends up running into THAT frat guy. The one you never want to be alone with. Thankfully Darren decides to check on her and takes care of frat boy. One thing leads to another, after all he’s a good guy, and they end up at his place.

While Julia wants more with Darren, she knows it may not happen after their first night. But she enjoys fantasizing about their night together. Imagine her surprise, when on her first day of fall classes, she finds Darren standing at the front of the classroom. He’s her T.A. Awkward!

We quickly learn Darren is one of the good guys. My first thought was, yeah right. He’s a guy, he should have forgotten about her the moment he shut the front door. But I have to say most of the guys I knew in college were good guys. So Darren actually wanting to pursue something with Julia isn’t far fetched. Too bad school policy dictates that a T.A. can’t date his/her students. Julia comes up with options to work things out, but Darren is hesitant. He’s hiding something from her.

I enjoyed the sparks between Julia and Darren and the unusual ways they find time for each other. Behind Closed Doors is a cute, quick read that entertains until the last paragraph. Watching Julia go from spunky and daring to slightly insecure and love sick is adorable. I cringed at some of her choices, but we’ve all been there and would probably make the same ones. That makes the story real.

I adore the Campus Crush series. I love that the main characters are freshman, stuck between being a teenager and an adult. They struggle with wanting to make adult decisions while reacting emotionally like the teenagers they still are. The first year of college is a huge first step into adulthood and Ashelyn Drake has created characters that truly portray the experience.
