by Karri Thompson
Release Date: 06/30/14

Entangled Teen
 Summary from Goodreads:
Cassie Dannacher wakes up in a hospital over 1,000 years into the future after her space capsule is retrieved from space. She soon learns that 600 years prior to her arrival, the earth was struck by a plague, killing over half of the world’s population. Naïve and desperate, Cassie, who longs for home and is having trouble adjusting to the new, dictatorial 31st century government, is comforted by Michael Bennett, the 20-year old lead geneticist at the hospital where she was revived.

But why is Cassie in genetics’ hospital in the first place, and why do several of the people around her seem so familiar, including Travel Carson, the hot and edgy boy she is fated to meet? Soon she discovers there is a sinister answer to all of her questions – and that they want something from Cassie that only she can give.

Jennifer's Review

I was totally taken in by the amazing cover and concept for this story – living in the current age and then waking up 1000 years later!

Well that's exactly what happens to Cassie, after a terrible accident  they preserve her body till she can be healed. When they wake Cassie up its 1000 years later -- she awakes to a different world, with different priories and really no one to help guide her through it. You can go almost as far to she that she had no true person on her side in the beginning. While the discovery process was good, it could of been so much more -- we did  get to see  advances in technology and medicine,  but not much exploration of this new world as I was hoping for. For the most part - the book took place in one setting. I am assuming that in the next book we get to explore the new world more and we see that over 1000 years more advances occurred?

The book goes to some pretty dark places (lots of unseen twists & turns) but thankfully there was a decent happy ever after -- sure there things that were left unsolved but you were left with hope for the main characters -- Cassie & Michael. Overall a promising start to a new series.

Going down in flames by Chris cannon Review & Giveaway

Going Down in Flames
by Chris Cannon
Release Date: 06/30/14
Entangled Teen

Summary from Goodreads:
If her love life is going down in flames, she might as well spark a revolution.

Finding out on your sixteenth birthday you’re a shape-shifting dragon is tough to swallow. Being hauled off to an elite boarding school is enough to choke on.

Since Bryn is the only crossbreed at the Institute for Excellence, all eyes are on her, but it’s a particular black dragon, Zavien, who catches her attention.

Zavien is tired of the Council’s rules. Segregated clans, being told who to love, and close-minded leaders make freedom of choice almost impossible. The new girl with the striped hair is a breath of fresh air, and with Bryn’s help, they may be able to change the rules.

At the Institute, old grudges, new crushes, and death threats are all part of a normal day for Bryn. She’ll need to learn to control her dragon powers if she wants to make it through her first year at school. But even focusing on staying alive is difficult when you’re falling for someone you can't have.

Jennifer's Review:
The whole dragon concept was definitely different. When I read the summary I didn't know if I would like it but the cover was pretty awesome so I thought I'd check it out. Well I am glad that I did because this book was great. The dragon "colors" and then how everyone is divided by their "color" including dorms and social reminds me a little of the houses from Harry potter ( mainly bc they house them all together at the institute -- ie school)  but taken to the next level and with a twist-- you don't get to choose. You are born whatever kind of dragon and can only marry a dragon of the same kind---well if that just isn't bad enough-- the marriages are pre determined by linage -- yep arranged marriages!
Now we get to Bryn --a product of a banned union -- a mix of two dragon races. Bryn was an awesome heroine. She was full of life, had a distinct and great personality and was pretty proactive. She was also very sassy and had a firey temper - LOL. I really liked this heroine.
Zavian - I liked him and expected more from him --  I felt as annoyed with him at times just like Bryn did. I hope in book 2 that annoying part of him gets flushed out and that I love him.
Ivy & Clint - Adorable together and good/true friends to Bryn. All around good and real relationship between the two of them and with Bryn.
Jaxson - He played is role better and I hope we get more into his side of things in a future book.
Merrick - when you first meet Merrick you think you are never going to like this guy -- but oh how you do! Takes a good author in my opinion to sway me from thinking someone is "slimy" to "adorable".
Romance -- there is an undercurrent of romance in this book but it does not play center stage at all. I hope to see something stronger in the next book.

The one item that kinda through me off was how quickly Bryn and thus the reader finds out that she is a dragon. We didn't really get any time to know Bryn and we and Bryan are literally thrown into learning a ton of information! And then she really seems to accept all this information in stride which seemed a bit unrealistic. Perhaps if we would of known Bryn more at this point in the story it would of seemed more realistic. BUT -- I accepted it and kept going and was VERY happy I did! Chris does do a good job of letting us get to know Bryn and by the time Bryn was settled into school I felt I knew her pretty well.

The book looks like its a stand alone book but I am hoping there will be a sequel because I think this Dragon World and the characters has a lot to be explored! Also, the ending is very abrupt and leaves a lot to be answered--not in love with this ending unless there is a 2nd book coming! If a second book is coming then I can't wait and I will totally be picking it up when its released!

Carnelian by B. Kristin McMichael Tour, Review & Giveaway!

Release Date: 02/01/14

Summary from Goodreads:

Everyone has a past, but for most it isn’t as long ago as Seth Sangre. His past is literally thousands of years ago. Seth’s life led him to the present seeking something that might help him save his country from destruction. He has been in the present for over three years now and just found exactly what he has been looking for.

Mari had dreams that college will be a fresh start, one where she would start over and not fall for the good looking player like high school. Unfortunately for her, that’s exactly what ends up falling into her lap on the first day she moves into the dorms. Now she has to hold to her promise to herself and not fall for the handsome Seth. But he doesn’t plan to make it easy for her. Seth has already marked her as his next conquest. As the semester progresses, Mari learns that Seth might just have a life of his own that’s actually from the past.

Suddenly Mari finds her future along with her past put into question. She’s connected to Seth far more than she ever wanted to be and maybe the player isn’t who she thought he was. If Mari can trust her heart enough to follow him, Seth will lead Mari on an adventure of a lifetime and reveal family secrets she never knew existed.

Jennifer's Review
Loved the beginning of this book--The hot guy literally falling into Mari's lap and her reaction were pretty perfect and funny. This is a fresh, well written mysterious tale of soulmates, time travel and ancient societies.
Loved we got to go back in time! I won't say too much on that front but it was great, well written and different! I had a hard time putting this book down.

This plot could of had a lot of holes and unanswered questions in it.  Kristin did a wonderful job and answers the questions the reader might have before you have them. One example --When Seth doesn't know his past, you immediately think -- Why not look up your past on the computer? Well thank goodness Mari thinks the same thing (because if she didn't that would be annoying) and goes directly to the computer which fails to work when Mari goes to look up specifics on who Seth really is (and it continues to happen if they look up specifics). So they do get a general idea of time period etc.. but no real specifics to him. All in all, the details and explanations were well covered.

Mari -- studious, shy, reserved, but stands her ground when needed. I loved how she was really leery of Seth due to his reputation -- the story definitely would not of been believable for me if she wasn't -- because who wants to be #24 on some boy's list? I liked Mari overall but I didn't love her. My issue with Mari was that she seemed too perfect - at least when it came to athletics. She knew how to play basketball, football, and she used to be on her school's track and swim team --and was fabulous at all of them but yet couldn't help her roommate with the competition? Is the fact that she excels at all sports have something to do with her time travel ability or ?? If so I wished it would of been explained because she kinda came off as conceited. She also seemed to have just dropped her roommate (I passed that off as because she was in love) but I hope to see that friendship grow and get stronger in the next book-- maybe she even lets in her on her time travel secret.

Seth- swoon worthy :-) and persistent -- you can't help falling for him just like Mari did. At the beginning I was as leery of him as Mari, but as Mari got to know him better it became clear that he wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to Mari. I felt for him just as Mari did. Their relationship was a slow progression - starting as so called "friends" and then to dating. It went at a good pace. My only issue with Seth -- the whole thing with his ex girlfriend was slightly annoying as I thought he should of put more of a clear stop to her advances. I passed that off that he was from another time and was trying to be nice which was difficult with such a forward ex-girlfriend.

Seth's brothers:
Ty -- he kinda acts like an older brother to Mari. Sweet and caring. I liked how he stayed pretty impartial and did not stick up for Seth when he was clearly in the wrong. Overall he really added to the book.

Dee- well I think most will agree with me, I didn't like him. I didn't hate him he was just always brooding and negative--- so I kinda ignored him just like Mari did. At the end of the book my attitude towards him has changed and I expect that in the next book I may just come to like him.

The ending had me sighing in relief, but then I read an excerpt from the second book and..... Well I should not of read the excerpt. Total cliffhanger! Granted the author did give us a warning  before diving into the sneak peak of book too which was well deserved :-).  So if you read that excerpt definitely "read at your risk". I personally couldn't not read it and I will be sitting at the edge of my seat till book 2 Chrysoprase comes out!

This was the first book by B. Kristin and I liked it so much that I checked out her other books  -- I currently just started reading The Legend of the Blue Eyes (on book 2 out of the 3) and I am really loving that storyline and am super glad all three books are out :-)  (doesn't hurt that the heroines' name is special to me).

About the Author:
Originally from Wisconsin, B. Kristin currently resides in Ohio with her husband, two small children, and three cats. When not doing the mom thing of chasing kids, baking cookies, and playing outside, she is using her PhD in biology as a scientist. In her free time she is currently hard at work on multiple novels. Every day is a new writing adventure. She is a fan of all YA/NA fantasy and science fiction.
